2015 Yukata Festival: Design Newcomers Compete with Beitou Flavor

2015 Yukata Festival: Design Newcomers Compete with Beitou Flavor

10/29-11/02 Wear Yukata to Explore Beitou - Buy-One-Get-Two-Free Bathing

Yukata has always been an essential symbol of hot spring culture. To help the public appreciate Beitou\'s hot spring heritage and the beauty of yukata, and to provide an additional stage for rising fashion design stars, the Taipei Hot Spring Development Association held the 2015 Taiwan Beitou Yukata Festival Adult Yukata Design Competition. Unlike previous children\'s yukata designs, this year\'s theme is "Beitou Character," encouraging contestants to incorporate Beitou\'s unique features into their yukata designs to highlight Beitou\'s cultural significance. Selected works may be mass-produced so that everyone in Taiwan can wear yukata that represents Taiwanese heritage. The finals will be revealed on November 1 at 10 AM during the Beitou Yukata Festival, featuring a model runway show judged by professionals. The grand prize is NT$50,000.

Notably, Beitou was once Taiwan\'s largest film crew hub and was even called "the Hollywood of Taiwanese-language films," closely tied to the flourishing hot spring inn industry of the era - many crews even used their lodging as filming locations. In recognition of this heritage, the organizers held an outdoor cinema screening for the public to learn about and experience Beitou\'s local film culture. Additionally, local food stalls, a charity Beitou creative market, and a joint hot spring exhibition brought fresh experiences through industry-government-academia collaboration.

The Beitou commercial district, centered on hot springs, has gradually developed its own distinctive character. The Yukata Festival is a major Beitou cultural event. This year opened with an adorable children\'s yukata dance and expanded the "Beitou Yukata Street Stroll" event.
