Thermal Valley is located in a valley depression to the left at the end of Zhongshan Road, beside Xinbeitou Park. The hot spring here is hydrochloric acid-based, commonly known as "green sulfur" (Qinghuang), and is extremely corrosive. Because the spring water is clear with a slight jade-green tint, it is also called "Jade Spring Valley."
Year-round, the area is blanketed in swirling steam, with light and shadow shifting endlessly — dreamlike and ethereal, as if in a fairyland. It is thus praised as "Mineral Spring Jade Mist" and was listed as one of the Eight Grand Scenic Spots and Twelve Landscapes of Taiwan during the Japanese colonial era. In earlier times, because people frequently stumbled into the soft, wet ground at the valley bottom and suffered scalding injuries or even death, locals commonly referred to it as "Hell Valley," or by its local names "Sulfur Water Head" or "Ghost Lake."
Transit: Take MRT to Xinbeitou Station, walk toward Zhongshan Rd., approx. 1 minute to arrive.
