Pokemon Go Craze at Beitou Park: Commercial District Picks Up 100kg of Trash

(CNA reporter Yu Kai-Hsiang, Taipei, Aug 21) Taipei\'s Beitou Park, rumored to have rare Pokemon spawns, drew massive crowds catching monsters, causing not only illegal parking but also overflowing trash bins. The Taipei Hot Spring Development Association and multiple groups voluntarily organized a cleanup.

Before Pokemon Go launched in Taiwan, visitors would relax at Beitou Park after bathing. After launch, rare Pokemon like Dragonite and Snorlax frequently appeared, drawing large crowds on weekday evenings and holidays, causing illegal parking headaches for police.

Besides illegal parking, overflowing trash bins left streets littered with plastic bottles, utensils, and tissue paper, greatly disturbing nearby residents and shops.

The Taipei Hot Spring Association, village chiefs Chen Chang-Sheng and Chen Li-Chang, hotel operators, and city parks staff voluntarily launched a "Clean Zone Activity," collecting nearly 100 kilograms of trash in one day.

The Association also arranged for 5 additional trash bins. The sweating volunteers earnestly reminded players to maintain civic responsibility and keep Beitou Park beautiful.
