Sediment in Spring Water Is a Natural Characteristic of Xinbeitou White Sulfur Springs
Operators Have Made Improvements and Passed Re-inspection
Regarding the Executive Yuan Consumer Protection Committee\'s inspection finding that Sweetme Hot Spring Resort, Hotel Royal Beitou, and Aqua Bella Hot Spring Hotel had spring water quality not meeting standards, the Taipei Hot Spring Development Association pointed out that sediment formation is a natural characteristic of Xinbeitou white sulfur springs, as it has been since the Japanese colonial era. The operators have already completed improvements and passed re-inspection by Tourism Bureau certified testing institutions, and consumers can use the facilities with confidence. Xinbeitou white sulfur springs are generated by mixing geothermal steam with water. As hot steam erupts from underground, it is affected by climate and temperature, causing daily volume variations. Due to the white sulfur spring\'s gas-water ratio, settling time, and temperature changes, daily spring quality (total sulfides or total dissolved solids) may vary slightly, easily producing sediment. This is a natural characteristic of Xinbeitou white sulfur springs. When the Executive Yuan Consumer Protection Committee inspected Sweetme Hot Spring Resort, the operator happened to be cleaning the storage tank, causing temporary spring quality fluctuation that resulted in total sulfide concentration below the standard. The operator has since improved equipment and passed re-sampling and testing by a Tourism Bureau certified testing institution. Consumers can use the facilities with confidence. The Hot Spring Development Association emphasizes that all Xinbeitou hot spring operators have obtained hot spring quality certification marks, and their hygiene, safety, and service quality are trustworthy - absolutely the best choice for winter hot spring bathing.
