Beitou Flower Yukata Festival Debuts 10/25: Creating Yukata Exclusive to Beitou

What Beitou offers is more than just hot springs - it's a culture passed down from the Japanese colonial era, and wearing yukata has become an indispensable part of this tradition.

To help more domestic and international visitors understand the important role yukata plays in Beitou's hot spring culture, the Taipei City Department of Commerce and Taipei Hot Spring Development Association are hosting the "2020 Taipei Beitou Flower Yukata Festival" Yukata Design Awards, now entering its seventh year. This year's theme is "Yukata Date in Beitou." As an international tourism landmark, Beitou aims to invite commercial districts nationwide to participate, actively promoting cross-district collaboration to achieve the Taipei City Government's three industrial policies: localization, industrialization, and internationalization. The event concept extends to major commercial districts, incorporating landscapes, culture, and history from districts across the nation as design elements - such as Ximending's Red House and Lukang's Old Street - with designers creating garments that embody cultural significance while maintaining design aesthetics. Through fashion storytelling combined with the unique character of the Xinbeitou Hot Spring commercial district, the goal is to create practical and wearable "Flower Yukata" that can be showcased throughout the Taipei Hot Spring Festival.

The Xinbeitou Hot Spring commercial district is a benchmark district in the city, built on its unique hot spring culture, linking surrounding attractions to form a tourism network that shapes Beitou's distinctive tourism image. International hot spring cultural exchanges will further boost Beitou's hot spring industry. This year marks the first collaboration with the Maokong commercial district, launching "When Beitou Flower Yukata Meets Maokong Tea Sealing Festival" - during October 22 (Thu) to October 26 (Mon), visitors carrying Xinbeitou Yukata Festival promotional materials can redeem welcome gifts at designated locations in the Maokong district; visitors with Maokong district purchase receipts can enjoy lucky draw opportunities for Xinbeitou hot spring soaking and dining discounts, allowing tourists to explore both north and south Taipei while boosting event impact and driving business along both areas.

The annual Flower Yukata Design Awards attracts many talented domestic designers. This year, 47 contestants were selected for the finals through document review. All designs will be presented as physical garments showcasing creativity and character, with models wearing the works on the runway at the finals, fully displaying the beauty of each creation. The aim is to create yukata exclusive to Beitou, deepening and broadening Beitou's special historical background, making the cultural fusion of hot springs and yukata more profound. This yukata culture fashion show is sure to be stunning.
