Great at Catching Pokemon but Bad at Aiming Trash? Players Leave 100kg at Beitou

Beitou Park in Taipei, now regarded as a Pokemon Go holy ground, draws trainers from all over on holidays. However, after catching Dragonite and Snorlax, the departing crowds leave behind mountains of trash creating a terrible mess. The Taipei Hot Spring Development Association urged players: "We hope Pokemon trainers aim their trash as accurately as they catch Pokemon!"

Pokemon Go players in a holiday catching frenzy drove to Beitou Park for rare Pokemon, causing inconvenience to local residents and environmental pollution. To maintain the Beitou Hot Spring area and park surroundings, the Taipei Hot Spring Development Association, led by Chairperson Chou Shui-Mei with village chiefs, well-known hotel operators, and the city parks department, mobilized 50 cleaning staff. Starting from dawn on August 21, a full day of cleanup "captured" over 100 kilograms of trash.

The Taipei Hot Spring Development Association stated that players are very welcome to visit Beitou to boost tourism and local businesses, but also urged them to aim their trash into bins as accurately as they catch Pokemon in the game. Five additional large trash bins will be placed around Beitou. Visitors are reminded to keep trash off the ground, returning a beautiful environment to Beitou Park.
